Without knowing your TOWN'S ordinances, it is impossible to say.

Have you asked your Town Building Inspector?

In MY area septic tanks are rated by bathrooms AND bedrooms. Never made much sense to me but they are. I could have five other people living with me and the Town would consider the septic tank to be sufficient as long as I didn't add a bedroom or bathroom.

Call the Health Department and ask about the tank.

Why does this concern you? Are these people a problem in other ways?

Is this your home or are you asking about something a neighbor is doing? I am almost 100% positive this cannot be done even with the little info we have. A home septic is built to the size of the original home, 2 bedrooms. Adding more than 3 bedrooms will over load the tank is almost every case.

You are probably not aware of it but typing in caps is the same as shouting. It's not necessary here.

I'll repeat my advice - contact the Building Office in your Town and/or contact the County (or Town) Health Department.

I'm surprised that a 4 bedroom house (now) has a small septic tank. Is it failing?
