    Basically I think it is because the atmosphere exerts a pressure on our bodies while our bodies exert and equal pressure back. Hence homeostasis is maintained.

    A biologist would be better able to explain the process better. No doubt it is a lot more complicated than that.

    Atmospheric pressure is 760mmHg Our blood pressure out at avr 140mmHg running at 85 -90 mmHg not really equal pressure?
