Janitrol to Rite Temp thermostat wiring
I am changing a Janitrol mechanical thermostat to a Rite Temp 8085. And the heat Pump is a Goodman. The wires on my old thermostat are labeled G, Y, E,R,O,W,and C
There is no E on the new thermostat.
I have hooked the others to the corresponding letters on the new thermostat and left the brown E wire unhooked.
My heat works with the heat strips but the heat pump itself does not run.----Please help me---Reply to this email or call me at (843)424-2403
    Thank you! Steve Kochmaruk IV

You need the E on the stat for one of the heat stages. If you have an electric furnace and a heat pump you need a two stage thermostat.

This is a 2 stage thermostat. Which letter do I connect the brown E wire to?

If it is a new tstat it will have come with a wiring diagram. That will tell you where it goes. Sorry but it is a long distance from here to see the exact setup you have and there can be differences. I am not going to tell you something that I would be insure about. If you damage your equiptment then you would want to blame me.

Follow the wiring diagram the came with your new stat. They always explain the wiring. You might have to look at how the system is wired also.

Give me a hint and tell me what the NEW thermostat says for wiring. LIKE G, Y, E,R,O,W,and C for example

The new thermostat is a Rite Temp 8085 and its wiring diagrams are shown at The RiteTemp Support Site - Welcome
I have all the wiring done the way they show, but I have 7 wires total and their diagrams do not show an E wire.
All I get is heat from the aux. heat strips, and no power to the compressor

E is for emergency heat. W1 is for heat pump W2 is for your electric furnace/strip heat.
