The origin is the point which is the intersection of the x and y axes, (0,0).

For y coordinates, positive numbers are up and negative numbers are down.
Reflection over an axis negates the values of the other coordinate. For example, reflection over the y axis negates the x coordinate. Reflection of (4,-8) over the y axis becomes (-4,-8) because the x coordinate will be negated.
