H1B expired in 2010, what to do with taxes for 2011?
I was wondering if I need to file a tax return for 2011 even though my H1B expired in 2010 and I neither received any income or was in the US during 2011?

    I appreciate your feedback!

    Thanks
    Daniel

If you left the US in 2010 you would be a non-resident alien in 2011. With no US source income you are not required to file a return for 2011.

However, you SHOULD have submitted a Residency Termination Statement to the IRS. You can do that now.

The contents of the statement are spelled out on page 10 of IRS Pub 519, which can be doenloaded from www.irs.gov.
