Can american collection agencys come after me for defaulting on my time share payment

I was talked into buying a timeshare in Florida,I have been paying into it for 5 yrs and can no longer afford the payments,it has now gone to an american coleection agency,I do not want to pay anymore and wonder what the repercussions will be?
