    Laura,

    We too get city water and are experiencing the same thing. The apartment was built just 2.5 years ago and the water in our kitchen has the musty smell which disappears after a few seconds. Building maintenance can't smell it and say that there is no way mold can grow in the pipes. That I'm just smelling chlorine even though it doesn't smell like that in the bathrooms.

    What did you find out at your water issue?

    We are experiencing the same thing and have been dismissed by our building maintaince. What happened with your water situation?

    Try this on that stinky faucet. Remove the aerator from the spout and soak it in bleach.
    While you may not haven mold in your pipes it's very possible you have bacteria lurking around. Let me know if that works for you. If you still have the smell click on back and we'll go into it deeper. Good luck, Tom

    Hi Tom,

    Thank you for your response. Although the aerator has the mildewy smell, it doesn't seem to be the source of the mildewy water. Even without the aerator, both the cold and hot water are still mildew/musty smelling.

    I put some water in a jar and after a couple of seconds the smell had disappeared so I closed the lid. A few minutes later, I can smell the water more than if it is in an open container.

    This is the only faucet that smells, correct? If soaking the aerator didn't clear out the smell you must have bacteria growing in the valve body.
    Shut the water off and open up the valve. Remove the cartridge and soak that in bleach. Now pour bleach into the open valve body until it comes out the spout. Let it set for awhile. Now place a pan over the open valve body and turn the water on to flush out the supplies. Reassemble and test. Smell all gone now? Back to you, Tom

    Hi Tom,

    I believe we have a Moen Renzo faucet (one handle low arc pullout faucet). I tried removing it but it looks a bit complicated.

    Which do you think is better, ask the maintenance to replace the faucet with a new one or ask them to remove it and bleach it?

    Maintenance guys don't like to replace if it can be repaired. Have them bleach it. Let me know how they make out. Tom

    The assistant property manager had an attitude and said that they don't do this. When asked, what they don't do, she said "cleaning people's sinks". I tried explaining but got nowhere.

    I'm trying to do this myself. Found some instructions online but can't find the small plug in front of the handle. Do these instructions apply to the following faucet? I'm pasting a link to instructions to putting together my faucet. Perhaps that will help you determine if the disassemble instructions go with this faucet.






    Maintenance didn't want to bleach it because bleach ruins the parts. He replaced the cartridge and said that should take care of the smell. He did not have time to let me pour vinegar (instead of bleach) into the open valve body until it comes out the spout.

    Which part is the open valve body? I may do this part myself.
