Well! I had dark reddish brown hair colour but I wanted to go' lighter! Unfortunately I got a bit adventurous and decided I wanted highlights too! A few years ago an amazing colourist far me bright blond highlights then dyed over them in a copper tone I loved! Apparently I thought my zero experience equalled his years of it! Long story short I dyed blonde highlights and then over the top of that I dyed a red colour! I like the red colour part, unfortunately the highlighted strands have gone orange, it looks awful! Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I wouldn't mind going darker, anything would be better than the current situation!

Boy did that bring back memories! LOL And not very good ones. I am just guessing, but when you say you "dyed" red over the blonde, you probably used an actual red two-stage over-the-counter product, which removed some of the blonde you'd already colored in, then deposited red. Is that a good description? The pro more than likely gave you highlights then used a "cellophane" transparent color over them and carefully foiled the highlighted sections. You can't do that at home. I tried. What a mess!

Naturally, your best bet is to go to a professional colorist. S/he will fix the problem as best it can be repaired. But it sounds as if you're looking for a do-it-yourself solution. That's iffy at best, but you could (and I am not recommending this) do some intense pre-conditioning with a leave-in pack, then use a stripper to take all of the color out including your own natural color and then dye it all one shade that is easy to maintain while it grows out. I tried that, and I had some success, but my hair went through some very odd color shifts during the grow-out period that made me wish I'd gone to a pro. In the end, it would have been more expensive, but I would have probably been happier with the results.
