    Trouble relaxing; letting go
In the last few years I've noticed how high-strung I am. It seems that I can never seem to relax. Even when I take time for myself to do relaxing activities I can't seem to totally let go; totally let my guard down. I really wish I could figure out how to relax because the fact that I can't is beginning to affect me at work and at home. What can I do to fix this?

Talk to your doctor. There may be something medically wrong that you are not aware of.

I agree with the suggestion to visit your doctor. Very important to rule out physically based things and, if necessary, refer you to someone with whom you can explore this further. I was very high strung for good part of my life and I can tell you, its hard on the body. I got professional help and it was a good thing too -- it helped a lot. Now I deliberately take hot baths, day dream while listening to relaxing music, cultivate laughing and use making tea (non-caffiene types) as a means to add extra relax-me moments so I don't have to resort to taking medications for it. Good luck!

I know what you mean, I'm the same way, its been only going on for the past 4-5 months and its ruined my relationships with many people, friends and family, I have not found a way to deal with it so I think I'm going to take all of your advise. Thanks

I go along with all of the above and would also recommend relaxation and meditation. Difficult to get down to in the beginning but if you stick with it, say even only five or ten minutes a day then gradually increase it, it will help. There are lots of good book on relaxation and meditation. Good luck.
