I started renting a house and I thought I could afford it, but quickly realized that I couldn't. I asked my cousin to come live with me. My name is the only name on the lease. I come home from work one day and my cousin took all my stuff out of the bedroom and stuck it in the living room, so I no longer have a bedroom in my own house. My cousin is a total slob and never ever cleans up after herself. I have found her dirty underwear in a pile in the middle of the living room floor. Its gross. She never ever pays rent on time. She never pays bills on time. She has people over and drinking when I have to work in the morning. She is a total ***** to me and I don't want to put up with it anymore... So I'd really like to kick her out. I live in Minnesota. And she has lived here since around thanksgiving. What to do I do?

You have two choices. Either serve her with a pay or quit notice or a termination of tenancy notice. Since MN requires a 14 day pay or quit, I would just give her a one month notice (PRIOR to 2/1) to be out by 3/1. If she doesn't leave, then you have to go to court for an eviction order. You can't just "kick her out".

In the meantime, you move your stuff back into the bedroom and put a lock on the door. Why didn't you do this immediately?
