Our old generator has finally given up the ghost. The one I have replaced it with is more powerful (7250-8000 volts vs's4500) We have the right cable buried in the ground leading to a shed where generator is then going to a "gentran switch" located next to circuit board. The old 30amp plug would not fit in new receptacle. I purchased a new and just installed a Leviton #2611 (30A-125V, L050P) following the same procedure as the old receptical (also a Leviton). The green ground wire is directly attached to the grounding screw on the generator, the black wire was connected hot (gold) screw, the red wire (also hot) was connected to the (silver) or neutral screw and the white (neutral) was connected to the ground screw. I think this is correct, but I am not sure. I would appreciate any input from anyone.

As long as the black is the 120 volt hot condutor, and the red is the neutral for the 120 volt circuit, should be fine.

I do question the black and red, are you sure this is 120 volts?

Thanks your info. Was very helpful. Both old and new generators have outlets for 125 volt 30Amp, and 240/120 volts 30 amp. Cable is in ground leading to gentran. Either outlet can be used with a converta.
