In the winter should you open or close basement vents?
I have a finished basement spend littletime down there. If I open the vents it seems to get very warm down there, like all the heat is going there. If I close the vents it's freezing down there. I have a 2 yr. Old 95 Goodman furnace

Adjust your supply vents to your needs. No reason to heat the basement if not being used. Its not good to shut of 100%. Keep one or two vents cracked to help control moister.

T-Top, I couldn't have said it better myself. You don't have to have the registers full open or full closed. Just adjust them to keep some warm air in the basement, not so much that you get cooked out, and not so little that its unbereably cold. All it takes is a little fine tuning with trial and error.
