Parent's wages affect children's disability checks.
Several years ago I went to work part time because it was difficult to maintain my household epense with just my disability check. However;the children that I had adopted received disability due to medical conditions. I was not aware that their benefits would be lowered by going to work part time. Know I am having to pay back several thousand dollars just for one child and not both. Weird. I went to a local SSA and sat for hours to get some understanding of how my wages where computed. I only grossed nine hundred with the exception of two months in a year when there was three paydays. For these to instances it was about three hundred over my cap of one thounsand monthly. Looking at the letter that explained my child's decduction in benefits every other month was the overage and then the nine hundred.Instead of nine hundred ten times and two months of overage.SSA really can make things work in their favor.Anyone ever experience this, if so what happened to you. I have appealed the decision.

The reasoning is that you are not disabled if you can earn more than 1,000/mo (I know, it was just a short while, but that's their thinking), plus there just has to be a set formula in place rather than a case by case evaluation or it won't work. I do know of 1 person who appealed having to pay overages back, but don't remember the exact situation. Good luck. I think it takes a calm and appreciative approach with the person you talk to (unless they've changed that to an appeal in writing only).
