Ok, here is what I mean by no diagnoses needed... I am not looking for medical attention or anything like that, and just for the record last week my doctor gave me a great, and clean bill of health. My question refers to a story I am writing, In the story, here is what happened... One of the characters smashed his head on a computer desk and is out cold and in the hospital. Ultimately, he is going to die, in fact, he dies in the first chapter, but that is what the whole story is about, anyway... The doctor comes in to talk to the family, and what I would like to know, is some "Medical Terms". How would a doctor, using medical terms say "he is getting worse, and we aren't sure he will survive, he has numerous clots, including one at the base of his neck. The best thing for him is to pull the plug."

Don't worry if it doesn't seem to make sense, it is just a story, and the doctor goes in to explain it in "laymans terms" for them to understand.

Okay, your story doesn't really sound plausible. Exactly how did he smash his head on a computer desk so hard that he is "ultimately" going to die?

With that said, the doctor would gather the family and tell them that have exhausted all avenues of treatment. He has several aneurysms that could break loose at any time, one of which is in a very dangerous position near the brain stem. Should any of this happen his death will be immediate. At this time you may want to consider his wishes. Would he want to continue life support? You may also want to take organ donation into consideration at this time.

Well, what happened in the story, was his father punched him hard enough to where he lost his balance and fell backwards and smashed the back of his head on the desk. In the story, When he made contact with the desk, he blacked out, then he, or his spirit rather, is able to see his body, and hear all that is going on.

That clears it up a bit. But it's still a little far fetched as it takes a lot more damage to cause such an injury like this.

This would be one way to word your story.
