I have a Maytag LAT9400 that stopped mid-cycle with the tub full of water. I've tried several times to restart by engaging the knob but to no avail. Any ideas?

The lid switch is in the center back of the lid, when the machine gets out of balance it can trip the lid switch by a metal trigger lever that is attatched to the lid switch plunger assembly. You can raise the lid and feels in the center back part right under the top, if you feel a spring loaded lever there, move it "gently" back and forth, the levers will get rusty where they pivot. All your doing is loosening the rust so that it will reset the lid switch, push it "back" and it should be rest in the right location, close lid and resume wash. This is the most common problems with 1000's of top load Maytag washers.
