I have a NOMA prog thrmostat model THM303M... the manual tells you to change the batteries every year... unit is hard wired... what happens if I do not replace the batteries what function do the batteries perform

Try it and see,, sometimes the batteries are not needed,, its according to how it was wired
Sometimes they provide power for the light to work,,
