I have a friend that's 24 going on her 4th baby. She is 6 months pregnant and wants to give me the baby. She does not know who the father is as it was a one night stand. I am willing to raise this baby being that I have none but can't afford to go through the whole adoption process at this moment. Can she sign over her rights to me? What is the best way of handling this? She lives in Tampa and I live in Puerto Rico. What will I need for the baby to be able to travel with me to Puerto Rico? This is of course till I can legally adopt her. Please help...

Nope, your only choice is to legally adopt.

Meanwhile can we have a power of attorney made where it states for medical,etc I could handle it. Can I catch a flight with her? What paper will I need to be able to fly with her?

You might get away with court ordered guardianship.

How do I go about that? Does the fact that I live in Puerto Rico change anything?

You will still need legal guardianship at least. And work toward adoption. There will need to be an effort made to locate the father of the child ( the court will have a min requirements for the search)

This will require an attorney and is not something you can do by yourself.

First, nothing can be done until the child I born. Then you will have to apply in Family Court for guardianship. It might be better for you, if she moves to PR and has the baby there.

I would certainly consult a Family Law attorney, you can usually get a free initial consult. They can also go over costs and maybe work out a payment plan.

That's easy if the baby is born have her sign anotarized paper giving you guardianship if the baby is not born .when birth time comes and she starts filling up the papers do it with all your info making you the birth mother when you receive the birth certificate and sociol it will show you as birth mother not her then you can travel back to pr with your new baby

Please do not advise our members to break the law. Besides the hospital, who fills out and submits the birth certificate, will not knowingly put false info on it. And they WILL know who the birth mother is. As for the guardianship paper. Notarization doesn't make it legal. It would need to be ratified by a court.
