Is the cross a pagan idol made up by the catholic
Crucifixion was a form of punishment used in ancient times. Criminals, conquered peoples, etc. were tied, sometimes nailed to a wooden cross as a form of execution. This was the sentence imposed on Jesus Christ.
Christianity believe that Jesus died symbolically for the sins of the world. So the crucifix became the symbol of Christ's sacrifice in Christianity.
So no, it was not a pagan symbol. However, there have been many pagan symbols adopted by the christian churches.
The cross was used by the early Jewish Christians along with the fish symbol.
Next of course Catholics are not pagan, they were one of the first Christian denominations.
You have used the terms "pagan" and "Catholic" in the same sentence. They are contradictory terms.
I have seen a catholic bible. It is on my lap right now. Why is the popes picture doing in the bible?? It is the 1st thing you c. I also think I heard if you write thepope you have 2 write and say my most heavenly father on earth. I know I read you are not 2 call anyone father but GOD. Read the 2nd commandment.@ it does not say a man can not have sex. Read 1 corinthians. Chapter 7 verse 1-16
Not all Catholic bibles have the Popes photo, but those that do, because the bible used by the Catholics have to be approved by the church, they can not pick up and use just any bible.
The Catholic bible according to Catholics contain the books taken out by the Protestants.
And no the Pope does not go by the most heavenly father on earth. I have not even heard that ever, so who ever or where ever you heard that lied to you.
Next there are 1000's of married Catholic Priests. Both in the Anglican Catholic group, in the Roman Rite where Anglican, Lutheran and Orthodox clergy joined the Church and in the Eastern Rites of the Catholic Church.
** There are more than one Rite.
In the actual Catholic Rite new priests going in can not marry, but it is just a rule, The church can change that part any time. But again it does not say a man has to get married. In the beginning Priests could be married, but that changed. Even today in the Orthodox church, priests can be married before becoming priests but not afterwards.
No different than a church rule where a pastor can not be a woman, and so on.
Not sure who is telling you about Catholics but it is obvious they have lied to you.
I've read both of your threads - what religion do YOU practice?
I realize you are Christian, but what sect?
I am not sure they are a Christian, perhaps someone who has been taught all the hate of the Christians, most of their posts come right out of the anti catholic play books, many written by Chick publications
No question this is going anti-Catholic based on who knows what. OP is certainly not Catholic but what religion is she?
I would like to know.
You are correct, that is not what most Christians believe and Scott statement is totally wrong as to what a Christian believes. And honestly a non christian knows this how ?
This is what non Christians believes that it was a symbol, a Christian believes it is a redeeming and act of salvation.
And yes personally I am offended greatly by it. Thus why a non christian has no business answering what Christians believe
Catholics are not pagan. My family are actually protestants and have crosses in our homes. I have many in my room. The message of the cross is foolishness of those who do not believe. I don't use the cross as a mystical symbol or fortune of good luck. It is a constant reminder of what Jesus did for me. He died for my sins so that I can live with Him and all my tears will be wiped away and all suffering will be gone.
Having a cross is no different than having pictures of Jesus in my home. Like for example, I have one picture of him with the crown of thorns on his head and depicting his great passion. It reminds me of His defeat over Lucifer and hell quaked and He is now seated at the right hand of God. Do I make mistakes... yes! I am not perfect. Jesus is the Holy and perfect one. Phew.. that felt good to actually for once profess my faith here!
