    Christmas lights save power?
So, I had an idea, to save electricity. We live in a two story town home. And in the stair well, there is no light, no windows, nothing, its dark unless you turn the light on. But I got the idea, to wrap all pink 'christmas style' lights around the banister, and see if that saves electricity. They have a switch, to turn off and on at the bottom of the stairs, so they wouldn't even be on all the time.

Please let me know if this will save electricity costs, or if its just a waste of time.

Christmas light strings do use less power than a 75-100 watt incandescent bulb but you can switch to a CFL and install a motion detector. Stringing lights on a banister will cause you huge grief if anyone ever falls because of this railing alteration. I would not do it to be on the safe side. I have used LCD rope lighting for various light projects

I think maybe Chuck meant LED rather than LCD. My LCD is a truckers license or my TV monitor.

LOL yeah I've called LED lights LCD before. It just sounds more natural :P

Thank you guys, especially you ballengerb. I will talk to my brother and see if he would do it. The stairwell is vaulted, and I can't reach the light bulb to change it out lol.
I didn't think of the hazards of having the lights on the railing. Thanks for pointing that out
