I am 56 and haven't had a period for 6 months then I got my period that has lasted 3 weeks what is up?

It quite likely has to do with approaching menopause. Periods will become irregular with infrequent, or continued bleeding; lighter or heavier flow.

It would be wise to see your gyn, however, as there are other possible causes for continued bleeding that they would want to check for.
