Does it have batteries? Check the thermostat and see. Most do

Most stats have both a battery for the display panel and a 24 volt supply from the furnace control panel. The power is most frequently run through a squareish metal transformer to drop the voltage to 24 vac so look for that to start testing. The power to the transformer is a red wire. Thermostat wiring colors and furnace terminal designations repair.
