    Intermittent brown water in apartment
Hello all. Very happy I found this site, so useful... with so many knowledgeable answers. Having a problem with brown water appearing intermittently in my rental apartment. Have lived in apartment for 14 months and have noticed the problem half a dozen times. First noticed the problem when loads of laundry would appear to have brown stains that could not be removed. Most recently, water ran brown from all fixtures, including toilet, ( both hot and cold taps) for several hours. Water has no smell.

Maintenance has inspected washing machine, nothing found.

Would appreciate any and all thoughts. Thanks

Brown water indicates iron oxide,(rust ) in the water. How old is your building and what material's the pipes? Copper? Galvanized? Plastic?
    Let us know. Tom

Building constructed in 1995... not sure of piping materials underground or inside walls... all of the visible piping in apartment proper (under sinks, behind shower, around water heater) appears to be white plastic.
