How to litter train adult adopted cat
We have adopted an 8 year female cat that has never been litter trained since she has been an "outside" cat. How do we get her to use litter?

Hi Blenburg! I always love to hear that someone has been kind enough to adopt an older pet into their home. Kudos to you!

Depending on the cat, there are a few different ideas I have heard from people that are supposed to work. A bit too long for me to try to describe. Instead, I have included three links that reference housebreaking an adult cat. Please visit these websites, read through the advice and see if you can implement the ideas.

Howstuffworks "How Housebreaking Your Pet Works"

Cat Haven - Litter Box Behavior

    TodaysMilitary.com - FamilyEducation.com

If you are having problems after this (give it a couple of weeks), please stop back and describe what you have done, how the cat reacted and what the cat is doing, and I will try to come up with a different plan of action for you.

If you are successful, when you get a chance, please let me know exactly what you did and how long it took. Always good to add to the knowledge base.

Either way, let me know how everything is going with your new addition and how she is adjusting.

    Good Luck! :)
