Replaced the fillvalve and about every hour or so the commode will discharge about a pint of water into the bowl
Fill valve is adjusted so the water cuts off about 2 inches below over fill opening

Unless your water level is reaching the top of the over flow tube this issue is caused by a bad flush valve or flapper. Replace the flapper and carefully check the ridge it seals to , feel for nicks or chips, if you find any then that too nees replacement
