Hi, I have a 1997 Honda civic ex automatic coupe that I bought a couple months ago from some a-hole, and The check engine light comes on which is why it hasn't passed smogged yet. The mechs say that it's the transmission and an oil pan leak, which I know needs to be repaired. But I don't think those are the reasons that the light would come on. Can someone please help!

Transmission codes will turn on the Check Engine Light. Hook up a code reader or scan tool, to see what codes were thrown. Then, reference the link below:

If the trans slips it will not pass insp. Period
