Do I need to place my heat pump on emergency heat at 30 degrees or below?

Don`t know how your system is set up,the brand,the model numbers,, but it should change over/emergency hear kick in on its own,, but to be sure and safe you can turn on emergency heat anytime you start feeling the HP isn`t doing its job with no danger to anything but your pocketbook
