What time scale are you looking at, as a balanced diet makes more sense then simply cutting back on calories..
Yes, but those 1200 calories must be ALL from good healthy foods.
No sugar, no fats except small amount of quality vegetable oil/day, no refined flour.
No soft drinks, no french fries, hamburgers, or any sweets. At most 1/2 slice whole grain bread.
Lots of vegetables, whole grains, fruits.
A little egg, chicken, fish, and nothing fried. You don't need a lot of animal protein (you don't need any, but if you decide to be vegetarian you have to study it carefully).
