My 7 yr old lhaso was peeing smal amounts frequently, so I took her to the vet and she gave antibiotics in case it was UTI. She looked lathargic and pissed at the same time these last two days and is now alert and healthy but still peeing without warning and not small amounts, regular sized puddles. The thing is two to three weeks ago I bought a kitten for my daughter, is this related? Arghghh!

Well of courses the new kitten has made an impact on your little dog's personal space definitely! Attention has been taken away. This will settle out though. Extra pats and rubs and treats will do the trick.

I would investigate further why your dog is peeing. I wouldn't have settled for antibiotics "just in case" it was a UTI.. Is it? Or isn't it?

Its not normal for dogs to pee randomly. There might be something wrong with her. The antibiotics may have taken care of the uncomfortable feeling (the pissed off look), but never actually cured the problem.

Bringing a new pet into the home will disrupt eveyone for about a week. A cat especially shouldn't really disrupt anything since a cat is not nearly as demanding and "in your face" as another dog would be. Cats don't belong in the normal pecking order or pack as dogs and humans.. so I would actually cross out any assumption that a new cat has disrupted your dog for more than a week.

Find a second opinion or go back to your vet and share your concerns with them. You might have to spend money on actual test results.

If the dog always drinks large amounts of water, you might want to test for beginning stages of kiddney failure

The new kitten will put an impact on your dog and she may become jealous but I don't think this is the problem it could be a number of things there could be something wrong or something simple like drinking too much water it is very unlikely but she may have a urine infection is she making any noise like signs of pain.

Thanks for all your responses. I put a diaper on her and she doesn't pee now unless its time for her to go out. She is still finishing off meds and looks/acts fine (doesn't drink so much)except she still has issues with the cat:( I DO give her lots of extra belly rubs/pats, cuddles but she is def still ticked she won't get out of the cats kennel, takes her toys, and well,, they're just toying with each other although the cat isn't that bothered with her, she does eat out of the dogs bowl every chance she gets, its so frustrating! Will it ever get better?

Thanks for updating us. Your post made my day ! Yes, I can picture the cat teasing a wee bit, our cat teases Brooke all the time. It will get better because thankfully the dog has a low attention span, and the cat too !

Its OK for a cat to eat dog food, as a snack, but don't ever allow your dog to eat the cats food or the cats poop.. And your dog will beline right for it! Cat food and poop is pure protein.. so its like a giant piece of jerky.. and they love it.

That's why Owen is always after the cat food.

And it's usually a lot saltier which in turn could cause your dog to drink more water... creating the urge to urinate more often.
