My family lost our puppy Thor on christmas day due to parvo. My kids can't stop crying when they see his picture. I really want to get another one not to replace thor ( that can never happen) but to fill the void he left. When will it be safe to get another puppy for the kids? I know we have to bleach the whole apt & lysol the sofas & what not.

Once you have had parvo in the home it's very hard to get rid of. Bleaching everything helps certainly but I would be hesitant about getting another young puppy.
Parvo can actually stay in the ground for years in traces of feces and can even be carried by other animals.

I would consider looking at an older puppy or adult dog that has already had all its vaccinations rather than a pup that is mopre susceptible to catching it.
There are many places you can get an older pup or dog from, the shelter being the obvious one. They have dogs od all shapes, sizes and ages.
A breeder is another option, some show kennels rehome older puppies if they haven't worked out in the show ring.

Sorry for your loss, it's such a horrible thing to go through.

I would wait until you have completely got rid of it it is really hrd to get rid of I agree wit shazamataz bleaching every day does help a lot more.

I figured that from speaking to the vets. We plan on moving either way in July so maybe then we should be clear of the virus. I'm not bringing the furniture, buying all new stuff. Thanks for answering so quickly... sorry for replying so late, with his service and mourning process.

No problem at all, if you are moving then yes that should fix the problem, just remember to clean things like shoes in bleach when you move and you should be fine to get another young pup.

Odds are everything will be fine, I just tend to be overly cautious with parvo, it's such a horrible disease that no-one should have to go through twice.

I've had numerous dogs in the past and none had ever had parvo. This was my family's 1st dog and he was great for being a pit.
