IT is a plastic drain and the screws have broken off in it. The drain cover is flopping around too.

Hi Margiey and welcome to the Plumbing pageat at AskMeHelpDesk.com. You piggybacked on an a 3 year old dead thread so I gave you one of your own. In the future, before you post, look in the upper left hand corner for the date.
If the strainer is the problem you could save yourself a lot of expense and hassle be simply drilling out the broken screws and reinstalling the strainer using self tapping screws. Sound like a plan? Cheers, Tom
