Form 843 returned from the IRS with "received" stamp. Next step?
Hi, last year I was working on OPT status, and my company withheld SS and Medicare taxes from my checks. When I informed my company about this error, they recommended me to file form 843. I did, and after 7 months I got a copy of the form 843 that I submitted to the IRS, but with a stamp that reads "received".
What should I do next to get my money back?

    Thanks!

    1. Which tax return form did you filed for 2010? If you filed resident return, you will not get social security and medicare taxes refund.
2, Form 843 is filed only after your return has been processed. It is filed separately, it is not filed with your tax return. Your U.S. Tax Return: Social Security and Medicare (FICA) Taxes for Non-resident Exempt Individual

    Hello MukatA,

Thank you so much for your quick response. I really appreciate your help. Regarding your message:

    1. I filed 1040NR in 2010, so it looks like I am entitled to get social security and medicare taxes refund.
    2. I am pretty sure I followed all the steps in the link you sent me. I guess I am just confused why I got that copy of my Form 843 with a "received" stamp on it.

    Thanks!
