I have no idea how to turn my panasonic TV on from standby,I can't find the remote but have my virgin box remote,can this turn my TV on?

Try using the UP/DOWN channel selector on the TV itself.

There should be a power button on the TV itself to turn it on. You should be able to program just about any universal remote to turn on/off your TV.

Otherwise you could try contacting your provider to see if they can help you program the remote (assuming it can be programmed).
