    You have to download the 32-bit version of IE. You can't open 64-bit programs as 32-bit. Also if you have a choice in the matter I would recommend a different browser as IE has various issues with things like adobe reader and have found that it crashes quite frequently if you use a lot of add-ons.

    64 Bit Windows will open all 32 bit applications as part of it's backward compatibility.

    Surprisingly enough BOTH versions are installed by default on Win7 and the 32 bit version is the default browser.
