Well first you need to get married. Texas law allows a step parent adoption only where there is a step parent.

Once you have been married for the legal minimum (Usually a year), you can then petition for the adoption. If you plan on hiring a lawyer, then let the lawyer prepare all the forms. If the bio father will agree to the adoption, it will be fairly simple.
