    Banks garnishment
I open a checking account not a line of credit with a bank and someone order student visa under my account info and ran it up to over ten thousand dollar. Currently, I am disputing it because one I didn't do it. My question is, since the debt is so much can they garnish my income tax? Also, the debt is in Texas

    Hello me:

There are TWO parts to your problem. If you handle the FIRST part, you don't have a SECOND part.

Proof that you opened a line of credit would be your signature on a contract. If they have that, then you'll have to deal with your second problem. If they don't, you're clear.

No, they can't garnish your income tax. Only the government can do that. But they can garnish your wages, attach your bank accounts, and ruin your credit.

Ooops... Never mind about the garnishment of your wages... Luckily, you live in Texas. But they WILL get your bank accounts.

Eventually, your dispute will wind up in court, and you're going to need a lawyer. So, if it were me, I'd hire a lawyer NOW!
