We have been legal guardians of child for 2 years, child has lived with us for 4 years. He is my husbands great nephew; no attempt to contact by biological parents in over 2 years. Is he free to be adopted by us? We live in NY State

Ask the agency that your dealing with. You currently have a good track record. Is there a reason why the parents haven't been around the child ?

Are you aware of where the bio parents are? You will probably have to try to get their agreement to an adoption. Depends on the circumstances by which you became guardians.
