What do I do if my belly piercing is infected?
I got my belly pierced 5 days ago and now I've noticed it seems to be weeping, like a little bit of yellow goo is coming out on to the bar, I clean it like 3 times a day, is this too much? And how do I stop all this yellow stuff coming out? Also does that mean its infected?

Hi there - I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with your piercing.

It all depends on what you are cleaning it with really. The best thing to use is a warm salt water solution. Soak a new clean rag/cotton wool ball in it, clean around the piercing and hold it on for a few minutes to soak. Then gently pat it dry with a clean towel. Its best to do this twice a day if it is weepy.

The weeping does not necessarily mean it is infected, however there is a small chance it could be and you may want to pop into a pharmacy to have them look at it.

However if it becomes hot, red, swollen and incredibly sore to the touch - then it is most certainly infected and it is time to get it looked at.

I hope this helps you a little and good luck with it!

    Xxxxx

I should have added here ** that the small amount of yellow fluid is possibly just the fluid that the body uses to keep a wound clean, and this is what *crusts* around a new piercing.
