Food stamps and receiving life insurance in ny?
I am kind of in a pickle and not sure what to do. My husband and I went on food stamps in Aug of this year because my mom was ill and we were out of work. Shortly after we were approved my friend and her children moved in with us because she was in a domestic violence marriage, She obviously had to go for some help, and her case worker told her that she would let my case worker know that she had moved in. So I thought I had nothing to worry about. My mom passed away in later September and I received $50,000 in life insurance. I called my case worker to let her know but she wasn't there so I left a message. She did not call me back so I wrote a letter informing her of my mothers death and the life insurance money, and that my husband didn't go to work force because we didn't have the gas. This was all in early oct and I have still received nothing. All I have gotten was his work force was rescheduled, my friend got questioned about her app because she put apartment B in the app (her case worker told her that was fine) and forgot to put my mom as living her as well. Know I am afraid that my case worker has not received my letter and does not know that my friend is living her because her case worker never told mine. I have done what I needed to do reported everything so do I write another letter, call and ask what is going on with my case? I don't want to get in trouble but I have informed my worker of my mothers death and the money that received.

You will have to go down in person to the food stamps office and speak with a supervisor to get this all sorted out. And since you came into some money you may have to repay any and all benefits paid to you.

In all states I am used to, you are required to go down in person and file new forms when there is change in people in household, and money.
