Jail for not paying child support?
My girl friend has a child from a dead beat dad and will not pay child support. He gets jobs working under the tableso he doesn't have to pay. My question is can he be sent to jail for not paying or was that changed last year when the state changed the support laws last year?

It honestly depends on what state your in... but usually yes, he can, unless he doesn't apply for unemployment and doesn't have a "real" job. You can call and ask a lawyer... most don't ask for money...

If a child support order is in place and he has not paid anything you may go to the local child support office and ask them to have him prosecuted for no payment. A lot of deadbeats have been spending time in jail for no payments. Your deadbeat may just join them.

Most states that I know of, can go to jail for non payment of support, some states ( and some counties in some states) enforce it better than others. TN was the toughest state I ever saw. But it will depend on your state.

First, what state? ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

But, if it can be shown that he is working under the table deliberately to avoid support, then its possible he could face jail time.
