What would cause a dryer receptacle to catch fire?
What would cause a dryer receptacle to catch fire and burn without tripping the breaker? The receptacle was wired correctly with black on the left, red on the right and white in the middle with a ground to the metal plate of the receptacle. When they plugged in the dryer a fire started in the receptacle. I am thinking whom ever put the whip on the dryer wired green to neutral and neutral to frame of dryer.

I think it was more likely loose connections on the receptacle.
Loose or Bad connections generate heat.
Could be the prongs or receptacle contacts as well.
Reversing neutral and ground should NOT have caused this.
