    Shoplifting- criminal law
If a person leaves a store without paying for something and is not caught. It is now two days later, can that person still be chatged? Can that person return the item without fear of being cahrged. This was in Florida

NO. To take something without paying for it is a criminal act. The store may choose not to prosecute but it is up to them.

Good for you for your pangs of concience. Just the fact that you took it, means that you can be charged. I suggest actually telling the manager that you stole it, but that you brought it back. I think that will do the best for YOU, and I don't think you will be charged.

To rich5298, I am not sure I understand your answer. Are you saying NO that that person cannot be charged because they weren't caught at that time or are you saying No that this person can not return this item without the fear of being charged.
