Floor furnace question - empire stove
The floor furnace will not kick on; however, the pilot light stays lit. What could be the problem? The unit is clean, and all the components are less then 10 years old. The thermostat is also in working order. It just seems like it's not telling the unit to kick on.
    Thanks

The thermopile is weak or the gas valve is bad. You need a meter that reads mili-volts. My money would be on the thermopile which looks like a thermocouple and has a rod that is in the pilot light and it generates a small current that goes through the t-stat and to the gas valve. After a while they fail. Get a replacement and install it. It probably makes enough current to keep the pilot light on and not enough to open the gas valve.
