When water is turned on in the house, the softner emits a whinning noise. When the water is shut off the whinning stops. The valve overflow drain weeps a little water too ! Could this be a bad turbine.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have attached a link to my Sears Kenmore Model 625388800 which illustrates a parts list of my unit. In the exploded view it shows a small turbine Part number 25 located on the exit of the value. As I said I only get the noise when there is demand for water in the house and the noise stops when water is shut off. Also the overflow value weeps by slightly. The noise is definitely coming from the valve body.

I see the little pump. I think your only solution would be to replace the pump. Good luck, Tom
