Not believing test results for pregnancy
I am 35 years old with three girls. I was on a couple days back and decided to go to the dr. and get a blood test to check pregnancy. I have an IUD in so I was not sure. It came back negative. However I still feel pregnant. Can you have negative results if your not very far along? I still have morning and night sickness, headaches, backaches, my breasts and stomach are larger but nothing else is growing, I am tired and short on patience. I know all these sysmptoms from prior pregnancy however this time the test keep saying no but for two weeks I feel like I am? Any ideas, or advice? I don't have insurance and don't want to keep just running back to the dr. Thanks

It would be very unusual for any pregnancy test, especially a blood test not to pick it up if you were far enough along to have so many pregnancy symptoms. If it were very early, then perhaps you might still get a negative.

Is this a copper IUD or with hormones? How long have you used an IUD? Some of what you describe may be attributed to the IUD itself. Some women do experience nausea, headaches, weight gain, etc.. Even if you have had it in place for awhile, it may be just that your body is reacting differently at this time.

You could wait some more and try another urine test or, if you go back to the doctor's, ask about having a quantitative blood test which will detect an actual amount of hcg, if you are indeed pregnant, instead of just a positive or negative result.

If tests still show no pregnancy, you may want to discuss other birth control options to see if the IUD is causing you problems.

Ok thank you I will wait it out a little longer. It is a mirena IUD. I have had it for three year now and never had any problems, I even get a period for about 3-4 days usually. And the week before I start I have pregnancy symptoms. This time I did not have a period at all and for two weeks now have symptoms. I am do for another period in about 11 days, so I will wait and see what happens with this one maybe. Thanks for all your help!
