    Estate remains opened
Why would an estate remain opened after seven years?

Where? It IS possible that there is an unresolved problem and no one has pushed anyone else to close the Estate, including the Court.

When I see this problem there is usually a bequest which cannot be filled because a person cannot be located OR there is a tax problem OR there are missing assets.

What is your situation (in as much detail as you are comfortable disclosing).

My sibling was appointed PR of my father's estate, some shady dealing happened around the time of death, recently I discovered the estate was still opened and was wondering why.

My sibling was appoointed PR of the estate, we have not spoken in the last seven years, I would like to know why this estate is still open. Would it be because money is being deposited into an account?

    Opened estate possible asbestos case
My sibling was appointed PR of my father's estate and given the property that he owned I had no problem with that , because I have a home, since my father's death seven years ago, my brother and I have not spoken, he has no scruples. The estate remains open and I would like to know if it would have anything to do with a possible asbestos case.

First, please don't start multiple questions over the same issue. I've merged your threads. Any further follow-up should be posted as Answers to this thread.

Yes, it is certainly possible that an estate can be kept open for pending litigation and not impossible that the litigation can take many years.

But what do you mean by still open? Do you mean the probate case? An estate account? What? Finally, ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area.

Right, how is it still "open," in what sense? Were you entitled to a distribution and, if so, did you receive it?

Yes, a lawsuit can certainly cause an estate to be held open.

    And, as Scott said, where?

(Thanks for the details - a lot of people don't post important facts and then it's a guessing game.)
