Last night I experienced what I figured must be a catastrophic electrical failure. It's been below 10 degrees here for the past 2 weeks, and averaging zero degrees for the past 4 days, but my car has been just fine, starting right up strongly every time.

But last night when I tried to start it, all I got was a strange clicking under the hood with all gauges "dancing" with each click. No, not an ignition or starter click that I've heard before but something different - seeming to come from the under the hood fuse box. And when I removed the key, the clicking did not stop.

I froze my butt off checking all the fuses. They were all OK.

I was fully prepared to have the car towed to the shop, be without it for a few days, and pay big bucks to have done whatever they told me it needed.

I contacted txgreasemonkey, and he gave detailed reasons he believed it was simply a dead battery.

It did not sound right to me since the battery gave no prior indication whatsoever of being weak, but I did realize that it was a 4-5 year old battery, so off to WalMart I went for a new one.

Problem solved for just $62.

John is awesome. He took his valuable time to explain what needed explaining for no benefit to himself but the satisfaction that he was helping someone in need.

I've always told my customers too that a car's battery is like the human life... it can go at any moment without warning.
Most of today's batteries are quite reliable. But the months warranty you get, is all the battery is good for. Just think about this for a second, the harsh environment it lives in.
