    Is this direct variation?
I'm having problems with this one math equation. Is a y = 5x - 1 a direct variation? I know hoe you solve direct variation, but that - 1 part is really throwing me off. Please help?

Is it saying 'negitive 1' or is it saying 'five X minus 1'

    does that make sense?

Direct variation means y/x=constant, which is not the case for y=5x-1.

Thanks guys! That first answer by Aurora2000 was super helpful, thanks. :) And at Jenniepepsi it does make sense, and I meant five X minus 1.
