Questions about filing late tax returns in New Jersey?
I just filed my 2008 New Jersey non-resident tax return and am due a refund, will I still receive it?

Yes, you will. All of the states follow the same statute of limitations that the IRS uses to determine whether you can file to claim refunds, which is THREE years after the first due date.

The due date to file the 2008 tax return was 15 April 2009, so you have until 15 April 2012 to claim your refund for 2008.

Late New Jersey tax filing again!
One more question: If I'm on an installment agreement with the IRS for federal taxes, will I still receive my New Jersey non-resident refund? I filed my 2009 and 2010 New York State recently and did receive both refunds.

More than likely you WILL receive the NJ refund. The IRS normally makes no effort to collect state refunds if you are cuurent in a payment plan with them.

NJ tax return in the final stages of processing and waiting for approval code
My 2008 New Jersey tax return is in the final stages of processing according to the representative I spoke with and she said it's waiting for an approval code; does anyone know when I should receive it? Or does my return go through another review?

Depends on why there's a delay - why is it being held and examined?

It's possible that there is one review. It's also possible that more than one review will be conducted. For example, if the return is compared with past years there will be an additional review.

They didn't say it was delayed. She told me that my refund was more than I anticipated and it's just waiting for a final approval code.

Since 2008? "Her" explanation doesn't make sense. If you made an error you "usually" get a correction notice and whatever refund is due - or a bill for the balance.

    But since 2008?

No, I just filed for 2008 in November, 2011! Sorry that I didn't state that originally.

    - And that's why it's being examined.

I would presume it will be reviewed at least twice.

When they say final stages of processing it means that it's being reviewed?

Yes - from what I know and have researched.

It's "tax talk" for "we're checking this out."

Please do NOT keep starting new threads over the same question. All your threads have been merged. If you have any further follow up please use the Answer options below to post a reply to this thread.

I would give it at least a month given the holidays.

You merged my thread but some of my questions were deleted; this was my first time asking for help on the internet and there was no need for the NOT in caps.

I tend to agree with Scott. A late return filed in November will probably NOT have its refund issued until January at the earliest.

So you gave me a not helpful because of that? I took the time to merge your threads, removing duplications (and no I didn't remove any pertinent questions) and explained to you why I did this. Then I answered your question.

Do you not understand that the people here are volunteers who donate their time and knowledge to help others. And your thank you for our efforts is to give a negative rating because you were offended by my emphasizing the word NOT? And then you expect people to help you further?
