Divorce Settlement - what if I'm in contempt?
I can pay the cash portion of my settlement agreement, but I'm supposed to transfer the balance of a credit card from her to one of my cards and I don't want to. It appears the judge can hold me in contempt, but what does that mean? What can he do to me if I don't transfer it? What are the worst and/or typical consequences?

Jail time is most likely the worst that can happen plus still having to pay the settlement. Not saying this will happen to you. Depends on just how hard the judge will look at this. I do not know what good it serves to put you in jail but only the judge decides. I hope you have an attorney.

Jail time is a possibility, as are fines.

Being found in contempt does not keep you from complying with the order. Also, you remain in contempt until you comply, so it's possible that you would remain in jail until you complied. Or have a fine assessed against you every day that you remain in contempt.

    It's really not worth it.
