Please help. My screen flickers and goes black. What can I do?
Hi there. You could try updating your graphics driver (Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware > Device Manager. Click on display adapters to expand the list and then right click on your graphics card/chipset. Once you have right clicked, click "Update Driver" and the update wizard will take you through the necessary steps to update your driver). If the screen flickers before you get chance to do anything, plug a monitor into the VGA (blue monitor) port on the side/back of your laptop and use that screen to navigate your way around.
If the above solution doesn't work, your screen may be damaged. Gently press along the part of the laptop just above the keyboard and just below the screen (usually where the power button and speakers are found). Under this is where the graphics chipset is normally found because its wiring has to go to the hinges of the screen (you might have a different style laptop to me but the GPU should be there. It might, however, be a bit lower down, meaning you would need to get a technician to have a look at it).
If your screen starts flickering when it is touched then your GPU (graphics processing unit, or graphics card) is damaged. They can be quite expensive to replace so only decide to replace the GPU if nothing else works. Let me know via private message if you have any problems with my proposed solutions.
Hope this helps,
Alex. :)
